The Benefits of CBD Pet Treats

The benefits of CBD that are available for human beings should also be available for your pets, and CBD pet treats are just one of the ways that this is being made possible. As with CBD use in humans, a lot of interest is being shown in the benefits of CBD oil with people’s companion animals. There is a demand for more data and more products, and it seems to be on the horizon.

Animals obviously suffer from the same problems that humans do, and it stands to reason that they would be helped in the same or similar ways. Your anxious pet can be calmed, and if they have physical ailments those can be addressed.

Research on CBD is in its early stages, but some studies and anecdotal evidence have found that it may be helpful in treating conditions like anxiety, pain, cancer, and arthritis. CBD pet products are marketed as a natural way to treat these conditions in dogs, making pet owners curious.

While CBD has been legalized for human use at a federal level, the same cannot be said of animal use, and there are currently no FDA approved CBD products for animals. There are products out there on the market though, both for your dogs and your cats.

What Do Vets Think About CBD for Pets?

A recent survey of 2,131 participants conducted by the VIN News Service found that 63 percent of veterinarians reported that they were asked about CBD oil for pets at least once a month.

But veterinarians aren’t always willing to discuss it — those who advise clients on using CBD for their pets can risk penalties and license suspension in some states.

In other states, veterinarians have a little more freedom. California recently passed a law that prevents state regulators from penalizing veterinarians for talking with clients about using cannabis for their pets, including potential side effects and toxicities.

Other bills like this are in the works, but for now, don’t expect your veterinarian to recommend CBD products, and definitely don’t expect a prescription.

Even in states where medicinal cannabis is legal, the existing laws only allow for a human healthcare provider to prescribe cannabis to people. They don’t authorize veterinarians to administer, dispense, prescribe, or recommend such products for use in animal patients.

THC (Don’t worry! The treats we recommend won’t make your dog high)

It’s entirely possible that cannabis products and CBD products for pets are going to go in the same direction as the similar products for humans.

The official stance on CBD Oil and legalization of medical marijuana has definitely opened up recently. CBD is now legal in all 50 states at the Federal level. This is currently only true of hemp-derived CBD though, and not the kind of oil that comes from marijuana. The THC content of this hemp derived oil is extremely low.

There’s been some research looking into how THC affects animals, and it has been found that dogs have a high density of THC receptors in their hind brain. This is good news, because those same receptors mean they can benefit from the cannabinoids in CBD.

It is Illegal for vets to prescribe cannabis for pets, but people who have access to CBD Oil for themselves have been making the decision to share the benefits they have had with their pets by giving them CBD products.

Most CBD pet treats on the market won’t have a hint of THC in their products. So please don’t worry about getting your dog high.

CBD

CBD has been found in humans to help with a number of different conditions, and this is why it was finally legalized at the Federal level in 50 states. This is the result of a lot of research, and evidence that proved its efficacy, and currently that is not the case with CBD Oil use in animals.

You can find plenty of owners online who will testify to the beneficial effects of giving their animals CBD oil in their food. The variety of conditions that they have been using the oil to handle matches the number of conditions that can be handled in humans.

This means that seizures, nausea, stress, anxiety, arthritis, back pain, symptoms of cancer, gastrointestinal issues – all of these things can be improved with CBD Oil in your four-legged friend. Being able to treat these things naturally in a way that you can easily give to your dog is much easier than having to stuff them full of harsh chemicals.

Relief is provided as the cannabinoids in the oil interact with the endocannabinoid system. This can boost immunity and help your dog to relax, and you don’t have to worry that your dog is going to get high.

CBD Dog Treats

Of the CBD products for pets that are on the market, the majority are aimed at dogs. There are a lot of people make the choice to add drops of CBD Oil to their dog’s food, but having dog treats that you can give them means that you don’t have to think quite so much about dosing. They are also a great way to provide other nutritional supplements to your dog in a way that they are going to enjoy, and which are good for them.

You want your dog to be feeling great, and a lot of the drugs that your vet has offered you to solve the problems that your pet has may not be something that you agree with. The same harsh chemicals and their effects on humans can be observed in animals as well.

Pet Owners

Pet owners want their animals to be well, and to not be in pain. The side effects of using the pharmaceutical solutions that mainstream veterinary surgeons will prescribe can cause as many problems in your companion animal as they have been seen to cause in human beings. People spent $69.51 billion on pet products in 2017, and according to an article in USA Today pet owners spend $1,285 on their dogs in an average year.

Finding something that can treat the problem that is natural, and allows your pet to retain the personality that you have come to love is something that people find very valuable. It makes a lot of sense that people would want the same for their animals that they have discovered for themselves.

CBD Oil is helping a lot of people handle conditions that there was once not much hope for, and it seems that the market for animal products is poised to grow in the same way. People spend a lot of money on their animals, and having a safe product they can use is great.

Side Effects of THC and CBD

As far as side effects go, THC consumption in animals is not going to have a markedly different impact in animals to the impact that it has on people. Overconsumption can include vomiting, diarrhea, trouble with equilibrium, or seeming zoned-out or spacey.

Thankfully, CBD Oil doesn’t have a high enough THC content for this to be a worry. It can however cause dry mouth, lowered blood pressure, or drowsiness. You should monitor this and reduce this dosage as necessary.

The full effects have not been fully researched or documented however, so there is a risk involved, as with any medication, so you are going to have to take that into account when you are using it.

You can try starting off with low doses and adding it to your dog’s food, and then increasing it. The same is going to apply to giving it to your pet as treats – you are going to have to judge what a good amount is based on the effects that they have on your pets.

Ingredients Used in Pet Treats

The awareness of what goes into the food that people are eating has increased in recent years, and the awareness of what is being fed to our companion animals is likewise increasing.

The same unnecessary ingredients, which includes, fillers, sweeteners, and artificial flavorings and colorings, have exactly the same bad effect on our animals as they do us.

Some animals are more sensitive than others, and you have to make sure that you take their allergies and other needs into account.

Pet food that sources the best ingredients and really cares about what is being given to your pet is definitely the way to go. If you give your animals good food you are going to see the difference. There may even be benefits that you didn’t foresee when you started to give them better food; it can often produce wonderful unexpected results that make your pet feel great.

Joint Pain

As dogs and other companion animals get older, some breeds suffer from mobility issues, and joint pain, like their owners do. With animals that have been used to getting around to stay healthy, this can lead to secondary health issues, and can sometimes drastically shorten the lives of your pets. It’s hard to watch your pets suffer, and you want to desperately avoid it if you can.

The good news is that, as a recent study at Cornell showed “2 mg/kg of cannabidiol (CBD) oil twice daily can help increase comfort and activity in dogs with osteoarthritis.”

The abstract for this study was submitted to the 2017 American College of Veterinary Surgeons Summit in Indianapolis and is pending peer review. This is great news – no one wants to have their pet in pain, and no one likes the idea that their animal may not be around as long as possible.

If you can do something to help your pet, why would you not choose to do it? It is definitely going to get easier as the research being done increases, and more products become available.

Peanut Butter

Who doesn’t love peanut butter!? If you’ve ever given your dog peanut butter before, you know these furry guys go crazy for it!

Peanut butter by itself though can actually serve as a great source of protein and healthy fat for your dog. Obviously you’re going to want to regulate the amount you give your dog. Adding a bit of CBD oil in your peanut butter before giving it to your dog will make it a sure way they get all the benefits.

We recommend Honest Paws Peanut Butter with CBD.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is widely recognized for its health benefits in both humans and dogs.

Coconut oil can elevate the metabolism of your dog, higher levels of energy, and a boost to the immune system. This only means it is going to help your animal stay healthy, and may impact on such conditions as arthritis. Coconut oil is high in saturated fat and medium-chain triglycerides, a form of saturated fatty acid with proven health benefits, ranging from weight management to enhanced cognitive function.

Coconut can improve your dog’s skin, and its coat. It also helps to improve digestion and it can help reduce allergic reaction.

Conclusion

You love your dog, and you love giving him treats. Giving your dog medicine is often not as much fun, and it is definitely noticeable when you have to give your dog heavy doses of any mainstream medications.

What if you could give your dog something tasty that is going to make them feel better? That is the best of both worlds. A lot of medicines do not taste good and it can be hard to hide them in the food, and then it is a real game to get you pet to take them. This can stress the animal out a lot, which is not what you want when you are trying to help them.

What if you could handle both your dog’s physical issues, and help them to be less anxious? What if all that were something that could be done naturally and safely? Dog Treats that contain CBD offer this possibility. Getting the right dosage can take some experimentation, but compared to the drugs your vet may normally prescribe to handle these issues, the risks are significantly lower.
